Gail Crease / Gail Whitiker
Hello, I'm so glad you stopped by.

For those visiting for the first time, welcome! I hope you'll take a few minutes to look around, and to become better acquainted with the books I write. And for those of you returning, welcome back! You'll find updated information on both the Regency and Contemporary pages, as well as a few new links. And if you haven't signed the Guest Book yet, please do. It's strictly private, and it's a wonderful way for me to see where my readers come from!

I have a confession to make.
I didn't consciously set out to be a writer.

It just seemed to evolve from a natural love of the written word, and from the fact that, like most writers, I grew up surrounded by books. I cried over Anne of Green Gables and struggled with the darkness of Oliver Twist. I marveled at the imaginations of John Wyndham and Mary Stewart, and followed Alistair McLean's heroes as they carried out the most impossible of missions long before anyone even thought of casting Tom Cruise in the role. But somewhere along the way, my perceptions began to change. What would it be like, I wondered, to be the one creating the stories? How would it feel to plot out the stories, and to develop the characters that would make people laugh and cry and experience the sensation of falling in love?

I decided to give it a try. A fantasy paranormal came first, followed by a gothic, and then a contemporary romance. I was off to a great start. Until I realised I had all these great beginnings--and not a finished book in sight. Thankfully, all of that changed when I read my first Regency novel.

"I was immediately captivated
by the style of writing,
and fascinated by the
social mores of the time."

And given that I had spent hours wandering through crumbling abbeys and old English castles, it was easy for me to imagine my characters doing the same—albeit in clothing far more elegant than hiking boots and jeans! So with that in mind, I started another new book, finished it, and in 1991 sold my first Regency romance, Bittersweet Revenge, to Harlequin Enterprises in Toronto.

The years in between have been very exciting. I've gone on to write nine more Regencies for Harlequin and Mills & Boon Historicals, and seen them translated into German, French, Italian, Swedish, and Portuguese. Two of those novels were part of Mills & Boon's first Regency continuity series, The Steepwood Scandal, which is currently being re-issued in North America through Harlequin's Reader Service. I also moved into the contemporary arena with the sale of two long paranormals (remember I said I liked gothics?) to Berkley for Jove's Magical Love imprint.

What do I do when I'm not writing? Well, music has always played a big part in my life. I don't think you can be born Welsh and not enjoy making music in some form or other. I've sung in large choirs and small groups, picked away at the acoustic guitar, and have even turned my hand to the piano—albeit poorly. I'm also a hopeless chocoholic.

Home for me now is beautiful Vancouver Island where I don't have to shovel snow but where I do own six umbrellas. I hope you'll take a minute to drop me an e-mail, I'd love to hear from you.
